JOB DESCRIPTION:
Background
Havasu NWR, near the lower Colorado River in western Arizona, encompasses 37,500 acres of river, marsh, and desert. Located within the transition zone between the Mojave and Sonoran deserts, the refuge is home to a diverse range of wildlife and was established to support migratory birds.
Havasu NWR is part of the Lake Havasu Refuge Complex along with the Bill Williams River refuge, which is located in Parker, AZ.
Volunteer Position
The Havasu refuge is currently seeking volunteers for Fall 2024 through Spring 2025 to assist with grounds, facilities, vehicles, and equipment maintenance. Duties may also include some interaction with refuge visitors, including some special events. Volunteers must have a willingness to become knowledgeable about the refuge and its management programs. The refuge will provide partial uniforms and training. Volunteers will be involved in physically active work and should possess the ability to work stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting, standing, and with ladders.
A valid driver’s license is required. Completion of a defensive driving course (training is provided) is required in order to operate government vehicles.
In return for a minimum 24 hours of work per week per person, we will provide a full hookup RV site (electricity, water and sewer hookup) at Havasu NWR in Needles, CA.
The refuge is seeking volunteers for approximately October 2024 through April 2025, with some flexibility on start/end dates).
