Job Description
Caverns of Sonora has been offering beautiful guided tours of one of the world’s top show caves since 1960. Come work in an engaging and friendly environment alongside fellow tour guides and be one of the few that gets to share the wonder of Caverns of Sonora with the public. You will meet customers from all over the world as you take daily tours through the cave. Work in a fast paced and engaging environment with a friendly staff in a scenic campground right on the edge of the Texas hill country in the middle of a working ranch.
Everyday responsibilities:
Taking tours; expect to take an average of 1-3 tours a day, our longest tour lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes; it includes 2.0 miles of walking along a paved trail. Tour Guides are expected to learn and memorize information relating to the cavern system so that they can then interpret that information to customers. Training will be provided.
Tending to the gift shop; While in the gift shop you will be waiting on customers, running registers, re-stocking merchandise and concessions, inventory control. We carry a wide variety of merchandise; some merchandise will require heavy lifting
Opening/closing chores; At the beginning and end of everyday tour guides are expected to make coffee, preform minor custodial tasks such as cleaning the gift shop, as well as the restrooms.
This is an active job; expect to be on your feet most of the day. In addition to taking tours and caring for the gift shop, we also manage a campground which also needs to be maintained. Some minor maintenance work is to be expected such as changing light bulbs, mowing, etc.
No experience is required, but prior experience in public speaking or customer service will help.
We offer both part-time and full-time opportunities; schedules are flexible but expect to work on weekends and holidays.
We are also looking to fill a landscaper position which can be done either full time or in combination as a cave guide.
Our work campers are provided electrical and water hook ups, one site does have sewer hookup. The campground on average has anywhere from 2-10 campers a night. Our campground will often have wildlife (deer, squirrels, birds). Work campers also help with after hours check-in and lower restroom/shower cleanliness. The campground is large enough where you wont have to worry about noisy neighbors either.
