JOB DESCRIPTION:
This opportunity is ideal for those who enjoy working with the public and have an interest in history or nature. Volunteers will be expected to lead interpretive programs with the public and assist with front desk operations. Volunteers should be able to stand/walk/hike for long periods of time and be able to kayak/canoe on open water. This includes lifting kayaks and moving them several feet. Volunteers must be willing to work outdoors in hot, humid weather with biting bugs. Typical hours for this position are from 7:45 AM to 5:15 PM inclusive of a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute beaks.
Shifts are generally 9 hours long and you will be working 35 hours per week, which might include weekends and holidays. Reliable personal transportation and a valid driver’s license are required. All volunteers must pass a federal background investigation. The associated costs of the investigation are paid for by the park. Please include in your application a resume and whether or not you have a current federal background check and an active PIV card. Please list two professional references who are unrelated to you and able to speak about your ability and/or aptitude for the position. Couples must complete applications for each person.
The park will train all volunteers and provide all necessary equipment and materials to safely conduct required duties.
Prior to the selection process, all volunteer applicants will be interviewed and will have the opportunity to speak with the volunteer supervisor. This will give applicants the opportunity to ask questions that are specific to their needs and situation.
An RV pad or apartment is available for volunteers willing to work 35 hours per week, from approximately 11/03/2024 – 04/21/2025. Amenities include water, electrical, and septic hook-ups, and free laundry facilities near the RV pad in the adjacent employee housing area. The pad is located less than 1-mile of walking or less than 2-miles by vehicle/bicycle from the Visitor Center. Apartments are elevated on stilts with parking below for standard vehicles. They are studio or 1-bedroom with a bathroom, kitchen, screened-in porch, and shared laundry. Public WiFi is available inside/adjacent to the visitor center. There is no WiFi in the housing area. Overall, AT&T is the only reliable cell service provider. Mosquitos can be intense.
We look forward to hearing from you!
