Volunteer Activities Photo Courtesy of BLM DescriptionJoin the volunteer team for the Northwest Oregon District (Bureau of Land Management) and U.S. Army Corps! This is a shared position between two agencies that work well together to provide better opportunities for the public. Sharps Creek campground, managed by Bureau of Land Management, is off the beaten path and is a delightful gem nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains with ties to the historic Bohemia Mining District. The site offers an intimate, 10-unit campground, day-use picnicking area, and a nearby swimming hole formed naturally among rounded boulders at the base of an overlook extending above Sharps Creek. Cool and delightful waters entice the visitor to swim or simply ‘dabble’ along the bank while enjoying the surrounding beauty of the forest. For those with a penchant for gold panning, the site offers exciting opportunities to try one’s skill and luck! Bake Stewart Park is managed by the U.S. Army Corps. This park contains upland prairie and oak habitats that are vital for wildflowers, native grasses and other species such as the monarch butterflies. Because of the ongoing habitat restoration, it’s a great place to explore. The trails around the park allow hikers and bikers to take in the beauty of the different habitats around the Row River and Dorena reservoir. We are looking for a couple or an individual to serve as campground host at Sharps Creek Campground and Bake Stewart (U.S. Army Corps).
