JOB DESCRIPTION:
1. San Augustine, Mill Creek, and Overlook Parks: The primary duty of the maintenance volunteer is to assist the ranger and maintenance staff with everyday maintenance duties and various projects. The volunteer will be required to provide their own transportation to and from the project office. This position will primarily report to the volunteer coordinator or maintenance lead. All volunteers and anyone, physically living with the volunteer (18 years of age and older) must submit to a Background Check. Only individuals who can pass the Background Check will be accepted as Maintenance volunteers and/or allowed to live onsite within the campground. Maintenance volunteers will provide 20 service hours a week (80 service hours a month) per individual in exchange for their campsite, see Additional Requirements for more information. Volunteer service days are rendered seven days a week and on Holidays. Schedules vary to include weekdays, weekends, and holidays as scheduled by the Volunteer Coordinator. a. San Augustine Park: 100 campsites, with a group (day-use) pavilion, three restrooms, playground, swim beach and boat ramp.
b. Overlook Park: no campsites, one restroom, day-use only recreational area with picnic areas.
c. Mill Creek Park: 110 campsites, four restrooms, one group shelter, one swim beach, one playground, and one boat ramp.
· Volunteers will provide their own, self-contained travel trailer, RV and/or motorhome that is taxed, titled and licensed (“road worthy”). In exchanged for providing 20 service hours a week, 80 hours a month, volunteers will be provided a campsite with electrical (50 amp), water and sewer utilities. Some camp host sites are equipped with RV covers. Please contact the Lake POC for more information on which volunteer sites are vacant.
· Able to use basic hand tools, handheld power tools, riding lawn mower(s), golf-cart. Trainings and certifications for any equipment provided by USACE Sam Rayburn will be provided. Preferred skills: basic carpentry/plumbing, minor electrical wiring ,property maintenance experience, basic landscaping, small motor skills, heavy equipment operation, painting, chainsaw operation, and/or construction.
