Job Description
Hunter Check Station Operator
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is seeking volunteers at the Bull Creek Wildlife Mgmt Area in Saint Cloud, FL for the 2024-2025 hunting season. The hunting season runs from 14 Sept 2024 through 20 April 2025. We have opportunities for volunteers to work part of the season, but preference will be given to applicants that can commit to the whole season.
If you enjoy hunting, fishing, outdoor recreation, and the rural lifestyle, you may be well-suited for this position. Although the area is remote, it’s within an hour drive of beaches, Disney World, Universal Studios, and theme parks. Grocery delivery is also available at the RV site. We are currently renovating a hospitality building for the volunteers to include on-site laundry, kitchen appliances, and lounge area.
Primary duties include checking hunters in/out of the area, providing information to the public, and handling harvested game animals to collect biological data. Training is provided by staff Biologists and returning volunteers, so prior experience is not necessary. You must be comfortable handling wildlife harvested by hunters; those that find hunting objectionable or are reluctant to handle harvested wildlife need not apply. Volunteers may also have an opportunity to assist with facility maintenance, data entry, or other tasks as needed/desired. We ask that you volunteer a maximum of 32 hours each week with flexible scheduling in exchange for free use of full RV hookup.
