Job Description
The Ajo Community Golf Course has an opening for a work camper to help in our ProShop/Bar. We are a 501c3 non-profit that manages to keep a 9 hole golf course running using volunteers and work campers. We have a part time paid greens keeper, and a shop mechanic, but other than that we’re all volunteer. Campers work between 15 -20 hours per week, depending on what’s going on. Campers have a free site, and all the free golf they can play.
The community of Ajo is small, and located about 35 miles north of the border. It is an old mining community, originally built in the late 1800’s. The central plaza hosts several businesses including an art gallery, coffee shop, and tacaria. It is the site of many celebrations including the Saturday Mercado.
Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is 25 miles away and is a beautiful Sonoran Desert preserve. It has an interesting visitors center, and several loop drives that take you through the canyons and valleys of the monument.
If you continue south of the border you will soon be in Puerto Penasco, Rocky Point. It is at the tip of the Gulf of California and is a bustling small Mexican City. You can golf in the morning, and have fresh shrimp tacos for lunch while overlooking a sandy beach.
We typically open the club house the first or second week of November, but most campers arrive in mid to late October. And if need be, you can get there earlier.
