JOB DESCRIPTION:
Visitor Center Hosts help park rangers greet and orient visitors to Big Bend National Park and Rio Grande Wild & Scenic River. Hosts make sure visitors have a safe, enjoyable visit and know park rules and regulations. Volunteer also collect entrance fees, write backcountry permits and operate the small bookstore located with Chisos Basin Visitor Center.
The Chisos Basin Visitor Center is located in the center of Big Bend National Park at an elevation of 5,400 feet. Nestled within an open woodland in a scenic mountain basin, this location is right next to some of the park’s most popular trails.
Hosts work 32 hours per week: three days per week at Chisos Basin visitor center plus one day of project or learning time. Hosts must furnish their own trailer or mobile home. Your RV site will be located in Chisos Basin or at Panther Junction. Electrical, water and sewer hookups are provided, and propane is reimbursed. Laundry facilities are available.
