Accepting applications for the 2025 Summer Workcamper Campground Maintenance Positions
The Estes Valley Recreation and Park District Work Camper Maintenance Program is designed as a seasonal employment opportunity that enables the EVRPD to staff and support the campgrounds at Mary’s Lake and East Portal in Estes Park, Colorado between mid-May and mid-September.
If you are a couple who has a strong work ethic, enthusiasm to interact with the public, and the ability to work in teams as well as independently, our Work Camper opportunities may be a great fit for you! This program is geared to people who are able to live on-site in their own RV. In addition to any hourly wage for maintenance work, participants in the program will be given free onsite accommodations. Our campgrounds are able to provide sites with full hook-ups, discounted propane, access to laundry facilities, trash removal, and wi-fi.
Work Campers are selected depending on a variety of factors. We understand that a major draw for Work Campers is to learn new skills, see new places and meet new people. We look forward to assembling a staff comprised of individuals who bring with them a wide variety of skills and life experiences. Enthusiasm and a positive attitude are key. CAMPGROUNDS MAINTENANCE WORKER

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is an entry level position responsible for performing basic maintenance-related duties at the Estes Park Campground at Mary’s Lake and The Estes Park Campground at East Portal for the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District. This position requires the ability to perform a variety of routine maintenance, custodial, and repair activities involving campground buildings and grounds. This position works a varied schedule, which may include weekends and holidays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform various landscaping duties including but not limited to pulling weeds, pruning, laying sod or seed, trimming grass, raking, dirt work, building tent pads, repairing/replacing fencing, improving drainages, cutting low-hanging limbs from trees, etc.
- Paint and stain railings, picnic tables, and the interior and exterior of buildings.

- Perform custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and stocking restrooms and shower facilities, cleaning fire rings and campsites, litter pick-up, and general upkeep of the campgrounds.
- Perform daily swimming pool maintenance and complete related daily logs.
- Assist with special event set-up, recycle and trash management.
- Assist with simple plumbing repairs.
- Assist in maintaining maintenance equipment including but not limited to mowers, line trimmers, and chainsaws.
- Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, onto grass, shrubs, or trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders, and perform additional weed management tasks as needed.
- Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures; wear and always carry eye protection and ear protection.
OTHER DUTIES
- Communicate any and all safety concerns directly to supervisor.
- Complete all safety training courses required by EVRPD.
- Obey and comply with all EVRPD, Larimer County, State, and Federal ordinances and policies.
- Assist administrative staff, other departments and perform other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to be trained and use maintenance equipment and tools properly and safely.
- Establish successful working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, and the public and use good professional judgment, honesty, and integrity in decision making.
- Employee must be able to interact with the public in a professional manner and have verbal and written communication skills.
- Follow procedures to use and/or dilute chemical cleaners safely and properly to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Work cooperatively with other maintenance staff members and volunteers, and follow all directions and assignments as received.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: No experience necessary. Looking for a willingness to follow directions and perform general landscaping, maintenance, and cleaning duties. At least 16 years of age.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Current first aid, AED and CPR certification or the ability to obtain in six (6) months of hire.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License, with good driving record, if operating EVRPD vehicles.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work in all kinds of weather conditions in mainly an outdoor environment, with exposure to weather, temperature extremes, and atmospheric conditions.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud and will be loud during certain assignments.
- Exposed to chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers.
- Frequently work near moving mechanical parts and/or heavy equipment.
- Use of campground maintenance equipment including tractors, mowers, skid steers, chainsaws, weed eaters, blowers, and various other related equipment.
- Exposed to dirt, dust, grease, loud noises, foul odors, vibration, fumes, heights, work safety hazards, darkness, and cramped spaces.
- Work will occur across uneven terrain, including hills, slopes, grades, and wetlands in both forested and open areas, which may present numerous slipping and tripping hazards and exposed to various forms of wildlife and their deposits.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive physical activity required; regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Regularly required to use hands to grasp, handle, feel and operate objects, tools, equipment or controls, and required to lift and reach with hands and arms.
- Required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, kneel, crouch, and climb; talk or hear customers and employees.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include near acuity, far acuity, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- This position is subject to EVRPD’s pre-employment screening process including, but not limited to, Criminal and Motor Vehicle background checks, and physical/medical examination.
