A start date of 10/9/2024 is preferred but can be negotiated depending on candidates needs and availability.
Furnace Creek Campground:
This campground is located in the Furnace Creek area of Death Valley National Park, on the valley floor. The terrain is fairly open with sparse vegetation. Some campsites have trees that provide limited shade, but most are unshaded. The facility offers wide mountain views to the east and west, which glow with hues of orange, red and yellow during sunrise and sunset. Furnace Creek has 136 campsites with drinking water, picnic tables, flush toilets and a dump station. Each site has either a campfire ring or grill. The campground entrance kiosk is staffed 7 days/week during the reservation season (Oct 15-April 15) by fee collection rangers. Campground Hosts are a huge help during our peak camping season. Hosts are provided full hookup sites, but surge protectors are highly recommended as power fluctuations can and do occur. The closest full sized grocery store, pharmacy, and medical services is located 65 miles away in Pahrump, NV. Most cell phone carriers work in the Furnace Creek area, but reception can be limited or even non-existent during periods of high visitation. There are some amenities located half a mile from the campground including a few restaurants, small convenience store, gas station, post office, laundry facilities, pool, and golf course. WIFI is NOT provided in the campground. Free WIFI is available at the Furnace Creek Visitor Center and Stovepipe Wells Ranger Station. Previous camp hosts have been successful with bringing in their own satellites and having their own internet setup. If you telework/work remotely, reliable internet is your responsibility.
General Position Description:
Camp hosts reside in their own RV and are responsible for greeting visitors and helping guests solve problems in a friendly and professional manner. Hosts wear the National Park Service Volunteer-in-Parks (VIP) uniform while on duty. Camp hosts must work well with people, provide excellent customer service, while being neat in appearance. Hosts are responsible for performing compliance checks on foot, three times a day, and must be able to perform light maintenance of the campground. Candidates must be able to walk between 1-5 miles a day in all kinds of weather. Hosts are expected to work 32 to 40 hours a week, often during busy holidays and weekends. Fee Collection is NOT required of camp hosts. A minimum commitment of 3 months is preferred. Compensation:
Hosts are provided full hookup sites (water, sewer, and electricity) within the campground. Free laundry facilities are available for use in Cow Creek. Reimbursement is provided for propane use. Volunteers have access to the employee pool. Volunteers who work a minimum of 250 hours are eligible for a free Interagency Annual Pass.
