DATES: 4/1/2025 – 9/30/2025

DEPT: Forest Service

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Seeking couple or individual to fill a Host Caretaker position at Cape Perpetua Scenic Area for April/May 2025 to September/October 2025

This position is a good fit for someone who enjoys hands-on work and being outdoors. Many also find this position satisfying because of the pride felt with a job well done – we get many visitor compliments on our restrooms, facilities and grounds.

Duties include groundskeeping at the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area to include mowing, use of a power blower, brush trimming and roving scenic area trails a minimum of 2 days per week. Duties also include maintaining and cleaning 4 area restrooms a minimum of 2 days per week. Volunteers will assist the Cape Perpetua Forest Service Developed Recreation Technician with projects, facility maintenance and groundskeeping as needed.

The position requires the ability to lift 50 pounds and hike an extended time on foot. Volunteers will provide friendly customer service to visitors in the course of performing duties. Hours are approximately 4-5 hours a day, 4 days a week. Successful candidate(s) will be required to have a valid drivers license, obtain a Forest Service driver’s license, wear closed toed hiking boots (not provided by Forest Service), wear PPE, and wear a volunteer vest and uniform outerwear provided by the Forest Service.

We offer an RV site and hookups include electric (50/30/15), water, sewer, wifi, and propane reimbursement. Cell phone coverage is spotty. There is a washer and dryer available on site at the Visitor Center.

Cape Perpetua Scenic Area has 26 miles of hiking trails, magnificent old growth coastal rainforest, wilderness areas, rocky shore tide-pools, beaches and an offshore Marine Reserve. Nearby are the small coastal towns of Yachats and Waldport.
