Job Description
Purpose: To serve as a visible representative of California State Parks in the campground, to assist park staff, and to assist park visitors.
Duties: Greet visitors; provide assistance and information; perform light janitorial duties, including public restrooms, entrance stations and campsites; campground operations including selling firewood, explaining park rules, and camp checks; reporting hazards and emergencies.
Skills: You must possess a positive attitude; a love of the outdoors; ability to work on your own; ability to work with a team; ability to learn the park; including rules, procedures, and history, wear a prescribed uniform and conform to the park service appearance standards; and possess a valid driver’s license. Some training will be provided.
Time: Three month stay. Four hours per day, four days a week with usually 8 hours a day on the weekends and holidays; on call 24 hours to assist park staff. A schedule of working hours and days will be provided. The camp host usually volunteers on a monthly basis, not serving more than six months at a time.
Positions: Camp host positions may be available at the San Luis Creek or Basalt campgrounds both have the following hookups: electricity, water, and sewer. A washing machine and a dryer are available at the sites.
Benefits: We are located in the heart of California, close to San Jose, Monterey, and San Francisco. We are known for the world class striped bass fishing, boating, and windsurfing. and emergencies. Volunteers who submit 200 hours will receive a CA State Parks pass.
Requirements: Applicants must be over 21, possess a CA Driver’s License, maintain a self enclosed trailer or motorhome,have weekend & holiday availability, and pass a background check.
