DESCRIPTION
Are you an individual or couple interested in volunteering in Yosemite?
We are looking for a 15-17 week commitment, mid December to mid April. This opportunity is open for individuals or couples. You must be able to pass the same background check as Law Enforcement rangers. 32 hours of work per week is required.
Primary Goal:
To assist the field Ranger operations by providing roadside chain compliance assistance, taking non-emergent law enforcement reports, or assisting with administrative projects, thereby allowing Park Rangers to respond as necessary to more emergent duties. To support other National Park Service work units on a short-term basis as specifically directed.

DUTIES
Take non-emergent and file type reports. Assist Rangers with chain control at chain compliance at chain control checkpoints. Provide park information to visitors. Assist Rangers or other park personnel as needed or directed. Drive a government vehicle and direct traffic as needed. May respond to minor motor vehicle accidents and assist with search and rescue. May conduct backcountry ski or snowshoe patrols. Use park radio and telephone systems. May have opportunities to participate in winter rescue training. Complete any other duties appropriate for Desk Office volunteers as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess basic writing, report-taking, and computer skills. Must possess a valid state drivers license. Must have winter driving experience and be comfortable working outdoors in cold weather. Works well with the public and fellow coworkers and supervisors. Desk Officers must provide their own recreational vehicle for housing (pad & hookups provided) or find non-government housing accommodations.
The Yosemite Desk Office Program may be available to those without a law enforcement background if qualifications are met. If you have good command presence, are in good health, and can easily learn a Law Enforcement Reporting System (IMARS) then we can train you to be a Desk Officer!

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work with National Park Service Rangers based in the Wawona and Badger Pass areas. Work may take place in an office setting or outside. Conditions can be cold and wet, on roadside, standing for hours at a time while performing chain control activities.
