Park Resident Volunteer: Maintenance (4/15/2021 – 11/30/2021)
Maintenance
OVERVIEW:
The Savannas Preserve State Park is seeking volunteers to assist with general park maintenance tasks such as mowing, painting, power washing and more. Additional volunteer opportunities, based on availability, include propagating native plants, park patrols, exotic plant removal and wildlife monitoring.
The Savannas Preserve State Park has over 7,000 acres of pine flatwoods, scrub habitats and freshwater marsh. We also have parts of our property on the St. Lucie River System. We have over 17 miles of multi-use trails (hiking, biking, horseback riding). We also have fishing, kayaking/canoeing opportunities and much more!
Park Resident volunteers will be scheduled for a 2, 3 or 4 month stay, depending on availability.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
– Ability to work independently, as well as a member of a team
– Ability to tolerate harsh weather conditions, including high heat index
– Prior experience in trail maintenance, mowing, vehicle maintenance, painting, carpentry, light construction, power washing, gardening/landscaping, etc.
– Age requirement: 18+
– Background Check: Standard Sexual Predator Check (FL and National)
SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:
– Must complete 24 hours of volunteer work per week per RV site (hours may be shared between multiple individuals living in the RV)
– Minimum length of stay: 2 months
– Maximum length of stay: 4 months, based on availability
TRAINING:
– Florida State Park Online Volunteer Annual Trainings must be completed immediately upon arrival (if not already completed)
– Preferred, but not required: ATV/UTV Training, Prescribed Fire Certifications, CPR/AED/First Aid
SITE INFORMATION:
The sites are full hook-up including well-water and a 50 AMP connection. No restroom or shower facilities are available. Filtered water, ice and washer/dryer are available on site. Due to the small size of our campsite area, unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate for any Resident Volunteers with children under the age of 18. We are also not able to accommodate for more than 2 well-behaved pets per RV. There is no Wi-Fi available at the RV sites. You are expected to provide your own transportation to and from the various areas of the park. The RV sites are in a private, more secluded area of the park, which is located approximately 1 mile from the Administrative Compounds and 2.5 miles from the Education Center.
