ADDRESS: Northside Drive  Yosemite National Park, California, 95389

DATES: 6/15/2025 – 10/15/2025

DEPT: National Park Service

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Description: Yosemite National Park is seeking adventuresome people to volunteer as camp hosts at the six diverse campgrounds along the Big Oak Flat and Tioga Roads: Crane Flat, White Wolf, Tamarack Flat, Porcupine Flat, Yosemite Creek and Tuolumne Meadows, and Bridalveil Creek, along the Glacier Point Road. All campgrounds will be on a reservation system for the 2025 season. Each campground differs in layout and amenities.

Tucked into the High Sierra Mountains, these campgrounds are remote and offer wonderful opportunities to explore the majestic waterfalls, ancient Sequoia trees, and vast trail systems within Yosemite. Campground hosts are hired through the Volunteers-In-Parks (VIP) program and are invaluable assets to the park’s campground operations.

Major Duties: Check-in campers and educate them on campground regulations, solve minor campground issues and answer visitor questions. Camp hosts serve as the first point of contact when rangers are not present – including when on or off duty, at night, and if emergencies should arise. Hosts are not required or allowed to take on law enforcement issues, however, they do serve as very important eyes and ears of the campgrounds and aid in reporting any problems to park rangers. Most of all, Yosemite’s camp hosts ensure that all park visitors are treated with respect and have a safe and enjoyable visit!

Requirements: A minimum commitment of six weeks is required. Work schedules will be approximately 32 to 40 hours per week including weekends and holidays. Hosts must provide their own camping equipment. Uniform shirts, hats, jackets, and name tags will be provided; host are responsible for brown or khaki pants and sturdy shoes. Host will be provided with a campsite that includes a picnic table, fire ring, and food storage locker. A dump/fill station is located in Yosemite Valley and Tuolumne Meadows for those that are van/RV camping. Showers and laundry facilities are located at Hodgdon Meadow, Yosemite Valley and Tuolumne Meadows.

Lodging Details: Campsite amenities vary by location. Sites range from front country full hookups to remote dry camping.
