Job Description

Enjoy one of Florida’s most beautiful state parks while volunteering at Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park, located in the heart of Tallahassee, FL. We are seeking reliable local volunteers to assist at the front entrance in the Ranger Station.

This position would be responsible for the following tasks:

– Collect day use fees using a point-of-sale terminal
– Answer visitor questions in person and over the phone
– Assist visitors with facility rentals, annual pass sales and after-hours permits.
– Operate a two-way radio system to contact field staff

Please indicate on your application any special skills or trainings you have that would be relevant to this position, including cash handling, customer service and computer skills. We will teach you everything else you need to know about park operations!

We ask that volunteers in this position work one 6 to 7-hour shift per week minimum, preferably on the same day and time each week. Ranger station shifts are typically from 7:30 AM-1:30 PM or 1:00 PM-7:00 PM, depending on sunset/park closing times.

You will be provided a volunteer nametag and t-shirt. Upon completion of your first 50 hours, you will receive a free entrance pass to the park you currently serve and 6 visits for you and your family to any other state park. Upon completion of 250 hours, you will receive a special volunteer annual pass for you and your family to any Florida State Park. Join us in all park staff gatherings (i.e., potlucks, celebrations, holiday parties, etc.) and the annual district Volunteer Appreciation gathering.
