Discover the Charm of Southern Arizona as a Residential (RV) Volunteer
Tumacácori National Historical Park
Nestled in the beautiful Santa Cruz River Valley, just 45 minutes south of Tucson, Tumacácori National Historical Park invites you to spend the season immersed in the natural beauty and cultural richness of the Sonoran Desert.
As a Residential (RV) Volunteer, you’ll enjoy a peaceful site with full hookups in a scenic setting while playing an important role in preserving and sharing the stories of this Spanish colonial mission village, Indigenous heritage, and the cultural crossroads that define the region. It’s a meaningful way to spend your season—surrounded by history, nature, and community.
Volunteer Season & Commitment
Our peak season runs from December through April, but volunteer assistance is welcomed year-round. We are currently seeking volunteers for a minimum of 2 months and up to 6 months. Both individuals and couples are encouraged to apply (each person must submit a separate application). A minimum commitment of 32 hours per person per week is required in exchange for an RV site with full hookups (30-amp electric, water, and sewer). A washer and dryer are available near the RV pads.
Please note:
- No pets are allowed
- RVs may not exceed 28 feet in length
- Volunteers must have reliable personal transportation
- Volunteer uniforms are provided and required
- Some weekend and holiday service is expected
- Propane is not provided
- Cell signal varies by carrier; internet is not provided. Most volunteers use personal hotspots. Wi-Fi is available in the visitor center and offices
Local Amenities
Groceries and gas are available just 4–5 miles away in Tubac. Additional services can be found in Rio Rico, about 8.5 miles from the park.
Volunteer Opportunities
We offer a variety of service roles depending on your skills and interests. You may serve in one or more of the following areas:
- Visitor Center Assistance
- Greet and orient visitors
- Answer questions and provide park information
- Support the cooperating association bookstore
- Natural Resources & Garden Assistance
- Care for gardens and orchard
- Assist with a variety of survey and monitoring efforts
- Facility Maintenance
- Help with groundskeeping and light maintenance (e.g., painting, fence repair)
- Cleaning
- Tour Docent
- Research, study, and lead mission and nature tours
- Gain ability to answer questions and provide additional informal interpretation
- Youth Education
- Assist with school field trips and youth activities
- Help prepare classroom materials and programming
- Digital Media
- Create social media and website content
- Photograph and film park events or features
- Roving and Informal Interpretation
- Share park information informally with visitors on the grounds
- Learn and communicate key stories, features, and FAQs
- Historic Preservation
- Participate in condition assessments and other documentation
- Assist with hands-on preservation efforts
