Job Description

Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park
Accepting applications for Mill hosts.
Note: This park is operated through an agreement with Napa County Regional Park and Open Space District. The host position includes a full hook-up campsite at Bothe-Napa Valley State Park, approx. 1 mile from the mill in the beautiful upper Napa Valley. The Bale Grist Mill is an 1850’s working flour mill with an impressive 36 foot waterwheel. The Millers give tours on weekends and some Monday holidays. They operate this magnificent machine, milling whole grain into fabulous flour. School groups visit the mill in the spring and fall. Living history events are held in October and December, where the mill comes alive with local volunteers and staff dressed in period appropriate clothing demonstrating the 1850’s life of early Napa Valley.

Duties will include dressing in period appropriate clothing (provided), working closely with the millers, bagging flour, selling gift items, running a cash register and filling out daily accountable sales forms, cleaning the granary building and assisting with light housekeeping and grounds work.

Host shifts will be approximately 24-30 hours a week, primarily on weekends and Monday holidays. Spring and fall includes assisting with school tours. A host couple is preferred for this position.

If interested, please send a state park volunteer host application or resume. Be sure to include in your email, your rig size and amperage needs, your available dates and reference contacts.
Contact the volunteer coordinator: jason.jordan@countyofnapa.org.
