JOB DESCRIPTION:

We’re looking for couples to serve as Visitor Center and Boat Launch Hosts at Blue Marsh Lake in Leesport, Pennsylvania.

As a Visitor Center and Boat Launch Host, your primary role will be assisting visitors and monitoring boat launch activities on weekends and holidays. Blue Marsh Lake is exceptionally busy during the summer recreation season and hosts will play an essential role providing helpful visitor assistance, answering questions, and assisting park staff with boat launch and visitor center management.

 

Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

·        Visitor Assistance/Water Safety Outreach

·        Monitoring boat launch activities

·        Boat launch gate booth operation

·        Opening and closing Visitor Center building

·        Restocking and distributing interpretive materials

·        Radio communication

·        Report rule violations and safety issues to rangers

·        Light grounds keeping

·        ATV/UTV operation

·        Attend water safety and basic first aid training

 

Time Commitment

Volunteers needed for the following 5-month commitment: May-September 2026. Shorter or longer commitments will be considered based on your availability and project needs. This position requires working a minimum of 16 hours per person on weekends and holidays (two 8-hour days on Saturdays and Sundays, including 8 hours on Memorial Day, and Fourth of July). Exceptions may be considered with prior notification and approval. Volunteers will not need to work during Monday-Friday, but are welcome to if they wish to assist with other projects and activities.

 

Amenities

The host site sits near the Visitor Center and Administration Area and includes a gravel RV pad with water, sewer, and electric hookups, picnic table, fire ring with grate, as well as trash service. The host site does have cellular service. Hosts are encouraged to bring their own Wi-Fi for personal streaming and are responsible for full connectivity during their stay. A UTV will be provided for travel within the park area, and all necessary uniform components, safety equipment, and training will be supplied.

 

Last but not least, you’ll enjoy a beautiful and peaceful spot to call home at Blue Marsh Lake surrounded by nature with the cities of Reading, Harrisburg, and Philadelphia not far away offering the perfect balance of outdoor adventure and urban convenience. The Blue Marsh Lake is a recreational hotspot with 4563 acres of land, 1121 acres of water, over 50 miles of trails, picnic areas, a small beach and boat launches, accommodating all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts. The Reading area is just 10 miles away, boasting year-round arts, dining, and entertainment. For more outdoor opportunities, the Appalachian Trail, Schuylkill River Greenway, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, and multiple local and state park facilities are close by. For even more adventure, attractions such as Hershey Park, Gettysburg National Military Park, Delaware River Gap National Recreation Area, and many other historic and scenic places are within day trip distance!
