JOB DESCRIPTION:
Full-time Visitor Services Support volunteers (also known as RVIPs) play an important role in park operations at this national park unit dedicated to the arts. RVIPs work up to 32 hours per week and may use an RV hook-up at the park during the volunteering period. Pairs are encouraged to apply, but individuals are also welcome. Position begins the week of May 11. Training sessions may be scheduled certain weekdays between May 11 and May 21. A regular Friday – Monday schedule will begin May 23. This volunteer opportunity ends on Monday, July 6.
About the Park:
Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park in Cornish, New Hampshire interprets the life and work of sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens and the Cornish Artist Colony. Located along the beautiful Connecticut River, the park features lovely gardens, captivating outdoor sculptures, hiking trails, historic buildings, and art galleries. The park also hosts special events including weekly concerts throughout July and August.
Description of Duties:
Foster culture of cooperation, professionalism, respect, and safety as a contributing member of the park team.
Staff the visitor center front desk by greeting visitors, presenting the park orientation film, completing credit-card only transactions in the park store, sharing information about park programs and events, directing visitor questions to appropriate park staff when answers are unknown, and answering the phone.
Staff the entry kiosk to greet visitors and provide information about the park and its programs.
Follow proper procedures and policies to collect park entry fees including documenting park pass counts, reviewing necessary forms of identification, and accepting credit cards only for payment.
Serve as a museum docent in Aspet, the Saint-Gaudens family home, by providing informal and accurate interpretation while managing the number of visitors within the historic space (no more than twelve individuals may be inside the house at one time), informing visitors of museum rules, monitoring visitor action to protect the cultural resources, and following opening and closing procedures to secure the building.
Provide support for special events and community outreach activities.
Develop knowledge and awareness of the park’s programs, operations, cultural resources, and related topics through participating in park-organized training, internal communications, and independent study.
Participate in park opening and closing procedures including locking/unlocking park buildings, reporting hazards and other anomalies, raising/lowering the American flag, and documenting statistics.
Rove the park grounds to provide general park information and report on hazards.
Perform clerical work including preparing and stocking print materials, organizing files, maintaining an inventory of park publications, and responding to visitor inquiries.
Learn and follow park safety and radio use procedures.
Adhere to all rules, guidelines, and laws in place by the park, the National Park Service, and federal government including the Saint-Gaudens NHP Volunteer Policy.
Maintain a log of volunteer service hours either manually or digitally.
