Join the volunteer team for the Northwest Oregon District (Bureau of Land Management). Northwest Oregon District strives to find motivated individuals looking to provide better opportunities for the public. From the east to west the District stretches from the crest of the Cascades to the Pacific Ocean. This volunteer opportunity is within the Molalla River Corridor. Hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, kayaking are some of the great activities this beautiful area offers.

The Molalla River is one of the few undammed tributaries of the Willamette River and cuts a picturesque gorge on its way to the valley floor. The Molalla River Corridor is an extensive network of more than 20 miles of trails for hikers, bicyclists and equestrians. This area also offers a wilderness area and one of the oldest stone fire lookouts that provide breathtaking views of Mt. Hood and the Cascade Mountain Range. The site has full hook-ups and is located just south of Molalla. The daily reimbursement rate for this site is: $9.50. A government vehicle may be provided while use of personal al vehicle will be reimbursed at the rate of .14 cents per mile.

 

Three Bears Campground is available for walk-in tent camping on a first-come, first-served basis. Situated on a scenic stretch of the Molalla River 4 miles south of Glen Avon Bridge, the site has 15 campsites, each equipped with a tent pad, metal fire ring, BBQ grill, and picnic table. The campground also has vault toilets and access to a beautiful cobble beach and swimming hole.

 

Cedar Grove Campground is available for walk-in tent camping on a first-come, first-served basis. Situated in a picturesque grove of western red cedar 6 miles south of Glen Avon Bridge, the site has 11 tent campsites, each equipped with a tent pad, metal fire ring, BBQ grill, and picnic table. The campground also has vault toilets and river access.

 

Aquila Vista Recreation Site is available for overnight group camping for up to 30 people by obtaining a special recreation permit. The site is located in the heart of the forest next to a large beaver pond. There is plenty of hiking and natural beauty to see at Aquila Vista including a small waterfall.

We are looking for a couple or an individual to serve as campground host at Molalla Recreation Corridor. The position is for a minimum of two months (May 30th through October 30th) with the possibility of being extended through the winter.

 

Campground Host duties:

The volunteer campground host will:

· provide information to campers about park and area resources,

· monitor campers to ensure compliance with established regulations,

· report maintenance issues,

· provide minor upkeep at the campground,

· notify appropriate staff in case of an emergency,

· Communicate effectively with staff to keep up to date on campsites assignments.

 

If the host is interested, there may also be opportunities to assist with leading volunteer work groups.

Hosts will volunteer 32 hours a week with the primary focus being Thursday-Sunday.

 

Benefits include:

A free campsite, daily reimbursement to offset incidental costs, government vehicle, trainings, and propane reimbursement. The opportunity to live and work in this area is a once in a lifetime experience. The daily rate for reimbursement is $9.50/day.

 

Requirements:

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who likes to meet people of all ages and backgrounds, loves working with people, and enjoys variety in their days. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working with people of all ages and abilities and have strong communication skills. The volunteer will be working without daily supervision, and must be self-motivated.

 

Also required:

Valid state Driver’s License

Must be able to walk on uneven terrain

Provide his or her own tent / RV / Trailer and camping / cooking equipment
