JOB DESCRIPTION:

Location: Ocoee-Hiwassee Ranger District, Cherokee National Forest

The Ocoee-Hiwassee Ranger District is seeking motivated and service-oriented volunteers to serve as campground hosts at the Parksville Group Campground, a popular and scenic destination near Parksville Lake. This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals or couples who enjoy the outdoors and are passionate about public service.

Campground Overview:

  • The campground is divided by Highway 30 into two sections:
    • Group/Tent Area: 24 non-electric sites with tent/group pads, central fire rings, pedestal grills, and picnic tables
    • RV Area: 16 electric sites suitable for large RVs, campers, and tents -If interested in this site, see Parksville Lake RV Host Opportunity.
  • Water hydrants are dispersed throughout the campground
  • Bathhouses offer warm water and flush toilets
  • A dump station is available across the road in the RV section

Host Information/Requirements:

  • The host site has partial hook up (water and electric) on site, with septic available on the RV side of the road
  • Volunteers must provide their own housing (RV or camper) and transportation
  • Hosts will be tasked with cleaning restrooms and fire pits, light maintenance, visitor support, and general oversight of the campground

Recreation Highlights:

  • Close proximity to Parksville Lake beaches and boat ramps
  • Easy access to the Ocoee River and whitewater rafting
  • Numerous hiking and mountain biking trails nearby
  • Ideal base for day trips throughout the Cherokee National Forest

Directions:

From the Ocoee Ranger Station, turn left onto Highway 64. Travel approximately 2.2 miles to Highway 30, then turn left. The campground is located 0.2 miles ahead on both sides of Highway 30.
