JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Salmon-Challis National Forest is seeking campground hosts for the Meadow Lake Campground on the Leadore Ranger District. Volunteer campground hosts serve as an integral part of the recreation and visitor service teams and are often the first contact for information about the Forest. We rely on our hosts to set a positive tone, offer correct and concise information, and maintain a friendly disposition. Campground Hosts will regularly provide information about rules and regulations and recreation opportunities.
The picturesque Meadow Lake Campground is located in the Lemhi Mountain Range on the Leadore Ranger District, at an elevation of 9,160 feet. The campground is 68 miles from the nearest full-service town of Salmon, and 22 miles from the small community of Leadore, where very basic amenities are available. Meadow Lake and surrounding trails are a popular destination for anglers, hikers, backpackers, and others who enjoy quiet, alpine recreation.
Campground Host Duties
- Greet visitors with a friendly and helpful attitude. Assist with campsite registration, answer questions, and assure compliance with regulations.
- Keep restroom and campsites neat and clean.
- Perform light maintenance of campsites such as trash clean-up, fire ring maintenance, and brush clearing.
- Remind campers why it’s important to not leave any campfire unattended. Put out any unattended campfires.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and organized host site as an example to the visiting public.
- Represent the Salmon-Challis National Forest in a professional and courteous manner.
- Show a presence of authority and report any law enforcement issues to law enforcement and recreation staff.
- Keep recreation staff updated on any issues regarding campers, campsite facilities, or maintenance needs.
Amenities/Benefits
- A campsite with potable water will be provided. No electric hookups are available. Volunteers should bring their own trailer.
- A daily reimbursement will be provided. Rate to be determined.
- Volunteers will receive an America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass at the culmination of their volunteer time.
