Job Description

The legacy of the Sinagua culture surrounds you during a visit to Montezuma Well. From cliff dwellings perched along the rim to large pueblo ruins and an ancient pit house, the variety of these archeological sites is a testament to the ingenuity of these people. Not to mention the geological wonder that is Montezuma Well itself, and the many animals that call this place home. Talk with visitors about our park and enjoy your long weekends exploring the southwest.
Montezuma Well is a subunit of Montezuma Castle National Monument. We are seeking a self-motivated individual or couple to assist with visitor services 3-4 days a week in exchange for housing. The park is located in central Arizona at about 3600 ft elevation. The trail is 1/2 mile long and includes around 200 stairs spread across 3 locations. Winter highs average around 50 degrees and overnight lows can get below freezing. Late spring temperatures can average in the 80s or 90s. This position starts during our slowest season (about 200 visitors a day) and ends during our busiest season (about 1000 visitors a day) of the year, must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment contacting hundreds of visitors a day.

Contact Station:
A small contact station is available for breaks and at times when visitors are not in the park (rare). Drinking water, AC and heat are provided. Junior Ranger supplies and passport stamps are available for the public. Staffing the contact station is the lowest priority during the day. No computers
Trail:
There are several areas on the trail that you can station yourself at to be available for questions, or you can keep yourself moving by walking the trail throughout the day. Two areas of particular interest should be staffed as much as possible to prevent visitors from going off trail and protecting resources. However, this position is not law enforcement, it is meant to be preventative.
Typically there should be 3-4 people on staff throughout the day.
Housing:
An RV pad consisting of crushed granite. Includes electricity, drinking water, sewage, propane. No cable, no wifi, limited cell reception. Rural environment with lots of wildlife. Neighborhood consists of 2 RV pads, 2 one-bedroom manufactured homes, and 2 three bedroom homes with various levels of occupancy throughout the year. Convenience groceries and gas are available within a 10 minute drive, big box groceries are about 30+ minutes away. Great central access to a variety of outdoor recreation activities, wineries, and cultural museums. Spend your 3-4 day “weekends” traveling and visiting other National Parks across the southwest
