JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Perry team is seeking one (1) highly motivated, collaborative-minded individual or couple to help with Slough Creek Park entrance gate. If you like helping people, caring for our public lands and resources, and working in a beautiful outdoor setting – this could be a great opportunity for you!
Duties
Daily work involves primarily opening and closing the park entrance gate (see schedule below), and assisting with monitoring reservations and overall park use. Attendants must work with other volunteers, Park Rangers and lake staff to monitor park. Training, equipment, supplies and mileage reimbursement will be provided. Attendants are not responsible for cleaning restrooms or handling money/fees.
Gate schedule:
closure – Fridays, Saturdays & holidays – 10:00 p.m.
opening – Saturday & Sunday & holidays – 6:00 a.m.
note: one-way exit access is available to visitors when entrance gate is closed
Commitment & Season
Services are needed April 15 – October 15, 2026. This position requires working 20 hours per week, spread across 3 days each week (+ holidays). Hours are required on weekends and summer holidays. No specialized skills are required, but customer service, communication and organizational skills and working collaboratively with a team are a must. Basic ability to operate a computer and UTV/golf cart is also needed. References requested. Driver’s License and personal transportation required, and may be subject to a background check pending specific duties.

Amenities
In exchange for 20 hours of work per week, the selected volunteers will receive a full hook-up campsite (water, sewer and electric) located directly across from the entrance gate. Volunteer must provide their own road-legal, well-maintained RV or travel trailer and transportation to/from the site.
About the Area
Located approximately 50 miles west of Kansas City near the town of Perry, KS, in the rolling woodland hills and native grassland prairies of northeast Kansas; Perry Lake is a destination for campers, boaters, anglers, hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts.
The grounds are located in Slough Creek, which sits between the two arms of the Lake. The park has 174 campsites and 1 group camping area, water and electric hookups, hot showers, a boat ramp, playground and hiking trails. In their free time, volunteers can enjoy fishing, boat access, hiking, cycling, and other outdoor pursuits. Amenities in the area include medical facilities, pharmacy, and grocery within 20-miles.
