JOB DESCRIPTION:
Foster the efforts towards the rehabilitation of wildflowers in our area while also teaching the public of the purpose of pollinator plants in our ecosystem. Contribute to the long-lasting impact on the natural environment and local flora and fauna community, truly reflecting the spirit of environmental stewardship and volunteerism at Wappapello Lake.
The duties for this position include the following:
Horticultural Management: Collecting, propagating, and cultivating native seeds in the greenhouse for transplanting into the associated Greenhouse and Wildflower Trail exhibit areas.
Facility and Grounds Maintenance: Performing routine cleaning and maintenance of the greenhouse facility, including the monthly or as-needed cleaning of glass panels. This also involves maintaining 0.3 miles of wildflower trails and adjacent flowerbeds through tasks such as trimming, weed removal, mulching, and the operation of backpack blowers and other small hand tools.
Pest and Weed Control: Applying herbicides with a pump hand sprayer to remove undesirable plants from flowerbeds and throughout pathways.
Administrative Tasks: Performing basic labeling, storage, and record-keeping of planting information, seed collection data, and related paperwork.
Public Outreach: Assisting Corps staff with occasional outreach and educational initiatives by delivering presentations about the greenhouse to school groups or small interest groups.
Minimum Requirement: Work 20hrs per week in exchange for a free full hookup campsite.
