Job Description
The BLM – Royal Gorge Field Office is seeking campers prepared for dry camping to perform campground host duties at Shelf Road for this spring. Shelf Road, just north of Canon City, CO, is a widely known and celebrated rock climbing area with thousands of named routes along limestone walls. The BLM operates two campgrounds in this area, The Bank and Sand Gulch. We are optimally seeking two sets of hosts, one for each campground. The season ends after Memorial Day, when it starts to get too warm for the area.
The duties include working with BLM Recreation staff to post Recreation.gov reservation slips on site posts, helping visitors to use the Remote Operated Kiosk (ROK) machine to reserve a campsite, work with visitors when issues arise, perform cleaning maintenance on vault toilets, and pick up minor litter that may occur.
Each campground has a dedicated camp host site, which has a sewer hookup, but does not have water or power. Host must be set up for dry camping, with solar panels and water. We are able to provide a facility to dump trash and fill water jugs. Back up generator allowed. Each site has a shed for the cleaning supplies.
It is possible to be trained and use a UTV for hosting duties.
The region is rich in outdoor recreation, with quick access to the Arkansas River, multiple trail systems, and much more.
