JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

Great Basin National Park is looking for Campground Hosts for the 2026 summer season.

We have four campgrounds in the park which benefit from the stewardship of a Campground Host.

Wheeler Peak Campground, Upper Lehman Campground, Lower Lehman Campground and Baker Creek Campground.

 

 

 

Are you someone who enjoys spending time in nature and meeting new people? Do you have a self-contained camper, RV, or cabover and a passion for the outdoors? We are currently seeking enthusiastic and dependable Campground Hosts for the upcoming season.

 

What We’re Looking For:

 

Ideal hosts will:

Enjoy the outdoors and living in a natural setting.
Possess a camper, RV, or similar self-contained vehicle.
Be courteous, dependable, mature, and able to interact well with the public.
Work effectively with Great Basin National Park staff and follow site guidelines.

 

Typical Host Responsibilities:

Performing light campground maintenance (e.g., picking up litter, raking, etc.).
Cleaning and stocking restrooms.
Greeting campers and answering questions.
Monitoring site usage and reporting any issues.
Helping to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

 

Campground Overviews:

The typical season runs from Mid-May to the 1st or 2nd week of September, depending on weather and site access.

 

Campground Host Locations Available:

 

1. Upper Lehman Creek Campground. the Campground host will reside in a dedicated RV Host site near the entrance to the campground. The Host Campsite includes an RV sewer connection and propane. Upper Lehman Creek Campground contains 24 campsites with two wheelchair accessible sites. Lehman Creek flows through this campground, moistening the roots of tall ponderosa pines. The campground sits at an elevation of 7,752 feet (2,362 meters) and is located along the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive, 3.5 miles from the Lehman Caves Visitor Center. Potable water is not available

 

2. Lower Lehman Creek Campground.  The Campground Host will reside in an RV Host site near the entrance to that campground. The Host Campsite includes an RV sewer connection and propane. Lower Lehman Creek Campground contains 20 campsites with one accessible wheelchair site. The campground is at an elevation of 7,300 feet (2,200 meters) and is located along the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive, 2.5 miles from the Lehman Caves Visitor Center. Potable water is not available

 

3. Baker Creek and Grey Cliffs Campgrounds(one mile apart) The volunteer host for these combined campgrounds will reside in an RV campsite in Baker Creek Campground, which includes, RV sewer connection, and propane, along with a 30-amp solar-powered, electrical hook-up. (Propane-powered appliances are advised). Baker Creek Campground contains 37 campsites, one of which is wheelchair accessible. The campground is at an elevation of 7,530 feet (2,295 meters) and is located on Baker Creek Road, 3 miles from the Lehman Caves Visitor Center. Baker Creek flows through this area, and trailheads for several favorite hikes are located near-by.

Coverage duties included for near-by Grey Cliffs Campground which contains 16 campsites, two of which are wheelchair accessible. The campground is at an elevation of 7,115 feet (2,169 meters) and is located on Baker Creek Road, 1.5 miles from the Lehman Caves Visitor Center. Potable water is not available

 

4. Wheeler Peak Campground is located at the top end of the 12-mile-long Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive, at 9,886 feet (3013m) above sea level. On this steep and winding narrow drive, the maximum allowable length for an RV, or a trailer is 24 feet. Wheeler Peak Campground is the highest-elevation campground in the entire National Park System. Nestled in aspen groves in the shadow of Wheeler Peak, this campground, which has 37 campsites, is a perfect base camp for exploring the park’s alpine region – where camping is otherwise prohibited. Prepare for dynamic weather and cold temperatures even during the summer. Potable water is not available.
