Campground Host for Paxson Lake campground located at Mile 175, Richardson Highway, Alaska.
Paxson Lake campground is located at mile 175 on the Richardson Highway. The campground offers a boat ramp to beautiful Paxson Lake. Paxson Lake’s southern end has access to the Gulkana Wild and Scenic River.
The host site has non-potable water hook up, a dump tank for grey and black water. Paxson Lake is a very busy campground. The month of July is the most popular month. Campsites are rather private and there are beautiful walk in sites with views of the lake.
Most cell phones work well in the campground. The campground has a beautiful lagoon with a bench that you can sit on, or weather dependent, you can swim or wade from the shoreline. The lake is usually frozen until the end of June.
We ask that hosts do their volunteer work either 5 days on and 2 days off, or 10 days on and 4 days off, with work time on the weekends. Our BLM contractor deep cleans toilets, stocks toilet paper and removes trash three times a week, however Hosts are asked to be sure paper is filled and that bathrooms are kept clean as needed.
Other duties include driving a golf cart like vehicle around the campground to check permits, removing any expired permits, picking up any litter, and assisting with camper questions. All campgrounds are first come first serve with no reservations for sites. Host are provided with a Kawasaki Mule to do their rounds each day.
Hosts are required to have their own trailer or RV to camp in and must complete a background check paid for by the BLM. BLM provides gas for generators, propane for cooking and heat.
Customer service skills and the ability to resolve issues is necessary, however we ask that Hosts do not try and enforce campground rules if there is any possibility of personal harm. All disputes should be referred to the program lead and law enforcement.

Campgrounds are considered rustic and remote, but host sites do have some additional amenities. BLM provides gas and propane for hosts to use in their generators/heaters and for cooking. Paxson Lake had non-potable water available at the host site and potable water at a hand pump within the campground. There is also a dump station at the host site for grey and black water.
Most cell phones work at Paxson Lake Campground. Sat phones are provided to Hosts for daily safety and data calls.
