DESCRIPTION:
Seeking to fill 2 beach host positions from May 2021-September 2021 for the summer recreation season. Interested volunteers may move in as early as February 2021.
West Point Project will need summer beach hosts for the summer recreation season at West Point Lake. Volunteers working beach areas will have scheduled work days and rotate with another volunteer. While on duty volunteers shall remain in the recreation area. Before the beach areas open for the summer, the Project Volunteer Coordinator will host a pre-work conference. Volunteers will be provided with all tools necessary to handle this position. The beach position may also transition to a winter host position that can be discussed with the volunteer coordinator in detail.
DUTIES
Duties for this position will include opening the beach area in the morning and closing the area down at night. Beach volunteers will be responsible for monitoring the safety of visitors and encourage the use of life jackets. Volunteers are required to have a flexible schedule. Volunteers will also perform maintenance inspections on the facilities within the park. This position can be accomplished as part of a volunteer team but can also be a solo person.
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include those who have volunteered at a U.S. Army Corps Project already. Volunteers will also need to understand the responsibility of representing a government agency. Anyone applying for this position must be comfortable speaking/interacting with the public.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment for this position will be outdoors in the summer. You must be able to work independently however Park Rangers will check in daily. During the summer season volunteers are required to work a 4 day on & 4 day off schedule. If staying as a winter volunteer, a minimum of 20 hours of work per are required.
