Volunteer
Job Description
ADDRESS:
DEPT: National Park Service
DATES: 6/1/2021 – 10/29/2021
DESCRIPTION:
Roadside Assistant Volunteers assist with roadside assistance in the park, report emergencies, help with minor traffic control, and perform roving of popular areas within the park.
Roadside Assistant Volunteers work in teams to provide roadside assistance. Teams will drive a courtesy patrol vehicle that is clearly identified as a ‘non-law enforcement vehicle’. Volunteers will assist in traffic control, provide minor roadside assistance (fluids, battery jump starts, unlock vehicles), perform campground patrols to look for food storage violations, and provide visitors with information and directions. With the new reservation system taking effect on Cadillac, and the increased pressure on Bass Harbor Light House, it is expected that an increased amount of time may be spent at one of those two locations assisting with traffic control and providing information to visitors on alternate locations during peak visitation hours. Work shifts will typically be during daylight hours although sunset and twilight hours may be required on occasion. Volunteers will report to Visitor Protection Services Supervisor, to begin their service work and at the end of their shift to get guidance as to the priorities of the day and to report issues and findings. Volunteers will perform duties only to their comfort level.
The start and end dates are flexible. Volunteers will be required to volunteer 32 hours a week to maintain their RV spot in the park.
