DESCRIPTION:

This Campground Host position is located at the Indian Well Campground in Lava Beds National Monument. The campground has 42 sites available on a first-come, first-served basis and a group site available by reservation. The monument offers a variety of recreational activities such as hiking, caving, picnicking, photography, wildlife viewing and historic sites. Volunteer must provide own recreational vehicle to use as a living unit.

The monument offers a variety of recreational activities such as hiking, caving, picnicking, photography, wildlife viewing and historic sites.

 

Duties:

· Ensure campers have registered and help visitors find campsites.

· Patrol campground and restrooms and alert maintenance staff if needed.

· Provide information to campers on regulations, recreational activities and ranger programs.

· Inform camp visitors of safety concerns, such as fire conditions and weather alerts.

· Gather and record visitor use data.

· Notify law enforcement or supervisor if illegal activity is observed.

· Complete other duties or tasks as mutually agreed upon.

 

Qualifications:

Previous camping experience. Good communication skills and an ability to relate to children and adults of diverse backgrounds. Ability to work independently. Positive attitude and enjoys working with and being visible to the public. Must provide own recreational vehicle to be used as a living unit.

 

Other Requirements:

Driver’s license required. Physical demands include some walking and standing. A small electric vehicle (golf cart type) is provided for campsite checks. Uniform shirt and volunteer patch is provided and must be worn while working with public. Must perform work in a safe manner at all times.

 

Training:

Volunteers will participate in monument orientation, safety training, and on-the-job training as applicable and as assigned by supervisor. First-aid and CPR training may also be provided by the monument.

 

Time Commitment:

Minimum 5 days a week/ 32 hours per week. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Position begins in mid-to-late May and extends through early September.
