Volunteer Activities• Campground Host Photo Courtesy of FS DescriptionThe Mount Rogers National Recreation Area is looking for volunteers who enjoy the outdoors to fill several campground host opportunities.  The Host(s) will need to provide their own living quarters; e.g., trailer or RV, for an agreed-upon duration. The campground is open from April 1st to November 30th. Host should be in the campground and available to the public 4 to 5 days per week, including weekends and holidays. Since our peak visitor days are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, days off will be scheduled for weekdays, usually Monday, Tuesday, and/or Wednesday. Service hours are from 8 am to 4:30 pm, but Hosts may be called upon 24 hours/day if needed. Stony Fork campground combines the beauty and tranquility of outdoors, this 51 site campground offers a peaceful setting for those looking to relax and/or looking for outdoor adventure. There are several hiking trails nearby, as well as the Interpretative Trail and the more challenging Seven Sisters Trail which lead out of the campground. Campground Host Duties: Host(s) must: Have good people skills Be responsible and neat in appearance Greet visitors and help them get oriented to the area Inform visitors of rules and regulations Manage reservations The Host(s) must be physically able to: Perform such tasks as raking, shoveling, mopping and sweeping Perform minor maintenance Inspect the campground Keep simple maintenance records Monitor area use Occasionally fill out forms Clean the restrooms/bathhouses on a daily basis Host(s) will represent the Forest Service in public contacts, providing information and directions, and reporting vandalism and other problems to Forest Service personnel. All necessary tools, supplies, and safety equipment will be provided by the Forest Service, along with appropriate training. Stony Fork campground is a perfect choice for a volunteer who wants a beautiful mountain setting while also having the convenience of cell coverage and a full service town nearby. In addition, hosts will be provided a campsite free of charge. The campground host sites offer water, 30 AMP electric service, and sewer hookup.  Hosts are provided with a land line phone and fax machine for communication and receiving reservation updates. Satellite TV is available if you have your own service. Internet is not available in the campground without a Wi-Fi card for your computer.  Please call for more information on this great opportunity!
