DESCRIPTION:

The Ferron/Price Ranger District of the Manti-La Sal National Forest in central Utah is looking for a volunteer camp host (single or couple) to live and stage from Potters Ponds Campground. Hosts would perform service at both Potters Ponds and nearby Indian Creek Campground located approximately 6 miles away. Potters Ponds is situated at 9000 feet elevation adjacent to two small fisheries in a high mountain valley ten miles north of Joes Valley Reservoir.

Hosts would perform service at both Potters Ponds and nearby Indian Creek Campground located approximately 6 miles away. Potters Ponds is situated at 9000 feet elevation adjacent to two small fisheries in a high mountain valley ten miles north of Joes Valley Reservoir. Aspen and spruce/fir are scattered throughout the site.

 

Nearest towns are Huntington, Utah (1 hour and 15 minutes away) and Price , Utah (1 hour and 30 minutes away).  Work schedule is typically Thursday through Monday as most visitors recreate and visit this area over weekends. Two days off in the middle of the week can be spent relaxing in the campground or exploring the amazing landscapes in and around the forest.

 

Potters Pond Campground Amenities

 

Potters Ponds offer canoeing and fantastic fishing for rainbow trout, and there are many scenic views from the shore. Visitors to this campground also enjoy horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking in the area, as well as exploring the surrounding off-highway vehicle (OHV) trails. The expansive Arapeen OHV Trail System can be accessed from the campground and has more than 400 miles of designated, well-maintained trails for OHVs. s

 

Potters Pond campground can be reached via the well-maintained graveled Miller Flat Road, which provides relatively easy access for cars, RVs, and camp trailers.  It has 2 single family sites, 13 double family sites, 4 sites set up for equestrian use, and a group site.  There are 4 pit toilets facilities in this campground.

Indian Creek Group Campground is located at 8,400 feet elevation in a high mountain valley amidst an aspen stand.  Indian Creek is a favorite for group gatherings, with seven large group campsites.  Two vault toilet facilities are provided at the campground.

 

DUTIES

Volunteer Camp Host duties include but are not limited to:

  • Campground Patrols and Maintenance: Clean up camp sites, shovel out fire pits
  • Facilities Maintenance: Clean, sweep, mop, sanitize restrooms and other public use facilities
  • Campsite Reservations: Post current reservations, ensure reservations are up to date and correct, ensure fee compliance
  • Perimeter Fence and Barrier Checks: Monitor barriers at Potters Ponds and the perimeter livestock fence at Indian Creek Campground periodically and report any issues to Forest Service personnel.
  • Campground Compliance: Ensure regulations are followed–fees, parking, fires, etc–and report issues to Forest Service personnel
  • Forest Service Liaison: Work with Forest Service personnel to ensure public safety, campground maintenance, compliance and resource needs are managed

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Volunteer Host Qualifications:

  • US Driver’s License
  • Social Security Number
  • Bank account for online reimbursement payment transfers
  • Personal Accommodations: RV, Trailer, Tent, etc
  • Available mid-June thru first of September
  • Moderate stamina and endurance and be in good health
  • Interpersonal communication skills
  • Love of the outdoors and public lands

Hosts provide & reside in their own RV or camp trailer. Hosts provide their own propane and/generators and their own vehicle to perform campground duties. No electric hookups are available. Grey water disposal is available at the host site. Hosts generally haul their drinking water periodically from Indian Creek Campground, or the recreation guards working in this area are willing to fill your containers for you.
