DESCRIPTION:
The camp host position provides general park information and elicits compliance with campground regulations through education.
This National Park Service Volunteer-In-Parks position functions within the Visitor and Resource Protection Division of Yellowstone National Park. The volunteer will be stationed at the Madison Campground within Yellowstone National Park. The National Park Service will provide a trailer site with utilities (water, sewer, and electric hookups) within the campground. The campground host will provide their own RV/trailer. The volunteer work involves providing information to park visitors about the park and its resources, as well as interpreting park regulations for visitors to ensure compliance. The Madison Campground is operated under a concession contract by Xanterra Parks and Resorts. Xanterra handles reservations, fees and maintenance in the campground.
Maintain assigned campsite in accordance with all park regulations, setting a good example for visitors.
Contact campers throughout campground, providing information on Yellowstone National Park, campground regulations, and the surrounding area.
Interpret campground regulations for visitors and report law enforcement issues to park law enforcement rangers.
Ensure visitors understand and are following food storage regulations; confiscate coolers, food, and/or cooking supplies left unattended at campsites; contact law enforcement rangers to follow up with campers. DOES NOT PERFORM LAW ENFORCEMENT.
Keep accurate records.
Assist visitors after hours on occasion.
Assist with other projects outside the campground as directed by supervisor or park law enforcement staff including help with traffic control at animal jams.
Drive a government vehicle (e.g. motor vehicle or golf cart).
Possess a friendly, helpful, professional demeanor with all visitors and co-workers.
Ability to communicate effectively with visitors, concession employees, and others.
Capable of dealing professionally with stressful situations.
Ability to read a map.
Ability to use a park radio professionally and properly.

The Madison Campground does not have internet or cell phone connectivity. The host sites do have water, sewer, and electrical hook-ups.
