Volunteer Activities• Campground Host • Visitor Information Photo Courtesy of NPS DescriptionVolunteers are stationed at Earl Landing and Campground and work to increase public awareness and understanding of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway and its significance.The landing host volunteer serves as a live-in host at Earl Landing and Campground. The primary responsibility of a Landing Host is to assist users by greeting and orienting canoeists, tubers, kayakers and campers, answering questions, and sharing safety information and rules in a cheerful and helpful manner. Through training, volunteers will become familiar with National Park Service rules as well as learning about local state parks, area information and fishing and boating regulations. The hosts help record visitor use counts throughout the season. Volunteers also perform light maintenance work around the area such as litter pickup, sweeping, stocking of supplies and light clean-up in restroom and vault toilet building, and various other duties. A level parking pad and full hook-ups are provided for use by volunteers selected for this position. Depending on the length of stay of the host, there are also opportunities to assist with special events at the park and/or with staffing the Namekagon River Visitor Center.
