However, housing may or may not be available to each volunteer, due to limited internal funding for housing costs.
Volunteer Activities• Computers • Conservation Education • Research Library • Other • Tour Guide/Interpretation • Visitor Information • General Assistance Photo Courtesy of NPS DescriptionPublication designer volunteers will assist the National Park Service (NPS) in the developing, crafting, designing, composing, and editing of various publications and other interpretive (and informational) media within Jewel Cave National Monument (JECA). The work may consist of researching interpretive resources for appropriate and factual textual information, designing full color and black and white mock-ups for internal reviews, searching and securing images and/or related graphics from internal and external sources, composing interpretive text, and editing publication projects as deemed necessary by the VIP Work Coordinator. Work projects may involve, but are not limited to, the following assignments: Site Bulletins – design, compose and develop informational site bulletins related to the on-site natural and cultural heritage features. Event Flyers / Emergency Information Sheets – design, compose, and develop one-page informational guides and/or related flyers for visitor awareness and/or appreciation. Interpretive Composition – compose interpretive and/or informational text for the park newspaper, exhibits and displays, teacher guides, news releases, and other associated media. Image and Graphic Procurement – search for, locate, and secure various images and/or graphics for use in publications; enhance images (as needed) using appropriate software. Project Research – research and review various publication sources, network with fellow staff members, conduct online searches, and communicate with external partner groups in order to secure adequate and appropriate information for textual wording. Interpretive Design – design mock-ups that detail (and satisfy) project expectations and which can be used for print-ready formats; understand and complement NPS standards with layouts, font styles, word usage, etc. HOUSING & AMENITIESType: OtherDescription: Volunteers seeking housing at the Monument are required to provide at least 32 hours of volunteer service each week of their volunteer time period.
