However, housing may or may not be available to each volunteer, due to limited internal funding for housing costs.
Volunteer Activities• Botany • Computers • Conservation Education • Research Library • Minerals/Geology • Other • Tour Guide/Interpretation • Visitor Information • Fish/Wildlife • Science • Back Country/Wilderness Photo Courtesy of NPS DescriptionPhotography volunteers will assist the National Park Service (NPS) mainly with the taking and assembling of high quality still and/or action images within Jewel Cave National Monument or like areas that complement similar natural or cultural features. The volunteers will also be responsible for the development and editing of various (existing or newly acquired) photographs and other image media related to the Monument. Additional work may consist of searching and securing images and/or related graphics from internal and external sources and photographic projects as deemed necessary by the VIP Work Coordinator. Work projects may involve, but are not limited to, the following assignments: Photographing – capture various images of the Monument, which showcase the diverse natural and cultural resources on site, as well as “stage” scenes that involve park staff, visitors, and/or special event gatherings. Image Organization – assist with the proper crediting, filing, and saving of images within the public server at the Monument, as well as work closely with assigned park staff for specific image documentation and distribution. Interpretive Composition – compose interpretive photographs and/or informational text for the park newspaper, exhibits and displays, teacher guides, news releases, and other associated media. Image Procurement – search for, locate, inventory, and secure various images for use in publications; enhance images (as needed) using appropriate software. NOTE: All images taken during VIP work shifts immediately become the property of the National Park Service; photography volunteers will not be allowed to impose copyright and/or trademark status to any image that is taken on VIP time.
