DESCRIPTION:
This is a camp Host position to be located at Howards Gulch on the Modoc National Forest in northern California. The duties of the host(s) are to provide general oversight and management of this campground as well as other nearby campgrounds.
Howard’s Gulch is located on the Modoc National Forest, in rural Northeast California. Set back off the highway in a tree lined gulch this campground is a very quiet and pleasant place to spend the weekend or your entire vacation. This small but beautiful area features a campground, a Basin and Range Birding Trail, and most recently a dedication of the Highway 139 Auto Tour and Howard’s Gulch Interpretative Sites. The gateway community of Canby is located 7 miles away (~10 minutes). Full-service communities in the vicinity include Alturas, CA (30 min) and Klamath Falls, OR (1 1/4 hours).
Howard’s Gulch Campground feature 10 sites on a first-come-first-served basis. This fee site campground features many amenities including toilets, drinking water, trash collection, fire pits, and picnic tables.
Camp host(s) are expected to camp on site through the season [Memorial Day weekend though Labor Day weekend (May 28th – September 6th)] and provide general oversight and management of the facility, provide information to visitors, and coordinate with Forest Service staff on a frequent basis. We are flexible on start and end dates. Host(s) are welcome to stay through October. Because Howard’s Gulch is relatively small, we request the host(s) on a weekly basis provide general oversight and management of nearby non-fee site campgrounds (for ex., Cottonwood Flat Campground, Big Sage Campground, Jan’s Reservoir Campground, and Reservoir F Campground).
Along with free camping, a daily stipend is available for each host providing services that day. Work schedules are flexible, though being present at least 5 days a week, including weekends and holidays, is expected. A Forest Service vehicle can be provided, and supplies such as propane can be reimbursed.
DUTIES
· Provide general oversight and management of campground
· Provide general oversight and management of non-fee site campgrounds in the area
· Provide customer service by greeting and interacting with visitors
· Insure campsite fees are paid and prevent and resolve campsite fee conflicts
· Coordinate with Forest Service staff on a regular basis
QUALIFICATIONS
· Applicants should have a strong customer service skills, a high level of oral communication ability and be comfortable camping in remote area
Applicants are required to furnish their own travel trailer, motorhome, or camper.
