Help thousands of visitors discover and enjoy Acadia National Park as you become an integral part of the Hulls Cove Visitor Center and the Sieur de Monts Nature Center team. You will also have plenty of time to explore and learn about this beautiful place during your 4½- to 6½ month commitment (6 hours per day, 4 days per week). We are looking for people who are friendly and outgoing and have strong people skills. This is a great job for anyone who enjoys talking to visitors and helping them plan their visit to the park.   Duties   The most important duty requires extensive time at the visitor center information desk. Volunteers work side-by-side with park rangers to not only answer general questions, but to help visitors have a safe and enjoyable time in the park and to gain a greater understanding of its significance.   Other duties include answering phones, taking program reservations, making movie announcements, and performing general tasks associated with a busy, fast-paced visitor center operation. There is some selling of postcards and books at the Nature Center for Eastern national Book Seller.   Additional rotating daily duties include: rove time outdoors at a highly visited overlook (usually one and a half  hours a day), rove time at other locations in the park as time permits, and days at the Nature Center.   Season   Volunteers are a vital part of the operation and must commit to the FULL season. The minimum commitment time is June through mid-October. There is also the opportunity to start as early as late April to mid May. Other options may or may not be condsidered depending on scheduling needs.   Work Schedule   Volunteers work 24 hours per week (4 days per week, 6 hours per day). Volunteers may work weekends and holidays. Couples will have the same work schedules.     Uniform   Volunteer shirts, hat and jacket are provided. NPS volunteer name badges wil be provided to volunteers that do not already have them. We ask you to provide tan or dark brown pants, dark brown belt, dark brown shoes. A tan or dark brown sweater, fleece or vest is optional but recommended for the air conditioned building.         HOUSING & AMENITIESType: Trailer/RV PadsDescription: A large RV pad with water, sewer and electric hook-ups is provided at park headquarters.
