DESCRIPTION: “A campground host is a seasonal volunteer who agrees to serve in a National Forest campground. Hosts are friendly, enjoy the outdoors and are eager to learn and share their knowledge.”
“The Great Divide Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is looking for a motivated volunteer to serve as a campground host at Stockfarm Bridge Campground. The campground is located in northwest Wisconsin, near the towns of Glidden and Butternut.
If you are interested in a quiet campground and trail riding, then Stockfarm Bridge Campground is just the right place for you. Campsites are situated within a red pine forest.
Stockfarm Bridge Campground is located on the East Fork of the Chippewa River. The river has class I and II rapids and is a good stream to canoe in medium to high water. There is also good fishing. The campground is located near the Dead Horse Run ATV trail.
There are 8 campsites available at Stockfarm Campground. There is one group site. Sites can be used for tents and RV camping. Each site has a campfire ring and a picnic table. Vault toilets and drinking water is also available. The campground has trash collection and a recycling area.
Fuel, fishing supplies, firewood, ice, and restaurants are within 10 miles of this campground, in the town of Glidden.
General Duties of a Campground Host Include:
- Serve as the first contact many campers will have with the Forest Service. The experience should leave campers with a positive attitude.
- Greet visitors, provide information, and display a courteous and helpful demeanor when rendering assistance to visitor questions.
- Serve as an important link to the Forest Service recreation staff.
- Clean and resupply vault bathrooms daily. On busy weekends, holidays, host will check facilities twice daily.
- Clean campsites and fire rings after a campsite is vacated.
- Check the boat landing and refuse collection area daily.
- Perform some light maintenance as needed.
- Assist visitors during any severe or inclement weather related emergencies.
- Encourage visitors to “do the right thing” by following all Forest Service rules and local regulations.
- Post reservation placards provided by Forest Service staff.
- Report any violations to Forest Service staff.
- Campground hosts are not responsible for collecting recreation fees or enforcing compliance.
Hosts are to be neat in appearance and to keep a tidy and welcoming campsite. Hosts should be in good physical condition and be able to work in a variety of weather conditions including rain, high humidity, and varying temperatures.
The host site at the campground does not have any hookups available.”
