DESCRIPTION:

Developed recreation maintenance and janitorial duties

 

A volunteer (or couple) is needed for Dixie National Forest maintenance needs in the Duck Creek, Utah area from mid-May to mid-September. An RV site will be provided at the Duck Creek Visitor Center; there will be some travel time involved and there is reimbursement offered. A government vehicle will be provided when available. Hookups include water, sewer, 50 amp electrical, and propane. Cell phone coverage may be spotty at times, but there is a landline and shared Wi-Fi at the visitor center. A typical workweek consists of roughly 5 hours per day of service, 5 days a week as needed (including weekend and holiday work).

 

DUTIES
Duties include maintenance and groundskeeping of the Duck Creek Visitor Center, Duck Creek bunkhouse, and the Duck Creek shower house to include mowing, minor maintenance, use of battery powered pressure washers and brush trimming. Duties also include maintaining and cleaning 10 area restrooms a minimum of 5 days a week. Volunteers will assist the Forest Service Developed Recreation Technician with projects, facility maintenance, and groundskeeping as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
The position requires the ability to lift 40 pounds and requires extended time on feet. Volunteer will provide friendly visitor service in the course of performing duties.

Applicant will be required to obtain a Forest Service Driver’s license and wear a volunteer vest and uniform outerwear provided by the Forest Service.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Duck Creek is located 41 miles East of Cedar City Utah, along State route 14 which is one of the main routes tourists use connecting Zion NP and Bryce Canyon NP. The area is also population for camping, hiking, fishing, and Off Highway Vehicle opportunities. The area is full of beautiful aspen forest, interesting geological features, and waterways. Due to the elevation (8,500′), this site has the added benefit of being cooler in the summer compared to the surrounding area.
