DESCRIPTION:
Volunteer Campground Host: Campground Host serves as an integral part of the recreation and visitor service teams.
The Upper Lake Ranger District of the Mendocino National Forest offers over 135 miles of the most enjoyable and challenging trails in the nation. Opportunities exist for a variety of vehicle types including motorcycle, ATV’s, and UTV’s. The Upper Lake Ranger District encompasses portions of Lake and Mendocino counties. The 249,000 acre district includes several high elevation areas and a wide range of climatic and vegetative zones, from grass and oak wildlands to pine covered mountaintops. The Upper lake Ranger District offers many recreational opportunities and a wide variety of outdoor adventures such as Off Highway Vehicle trail riding, hunting, hiking, para sailing, boating just to name a few.
The Upper Lake Ranger District is located next to Clearlake. Clearlake is known for it’s world class bass fishing and nearby Blue Lakes for it’s trout fishing. Middle Creek Campground is just a short 8 miles away from the town of Upper Lake. There you can dine out at the local restaurants, sit and have coffee, buy gas or visit our local library. Other amenities are close by in Lakeport.
Campground Hosts serve as an integral part of our recreation and visitor service team. We want to provide a recreational experience that visitors will enjoy and come back to. To provide that experience we need to offer visitors the valuable information they need to take advantage of their recreational opportunities. It is important that we set a tone that is positive, offer correct and concise information and maintain a friendly disposition.
Successful Volunteer Candidates have the following attributes:
Friendly and outgoing personality with good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to perform light maintenance work in an outdoor setting.
Interact with a diversity of visitors while maintaining a positive, helpful and non confrontational attitude.
Ability to serve independently without direct supervision.
Middle Creek Campground is open year round. Middle Creek has 26 campsites and two restroom buildings with a total of four vault toilets.. There is garbage service and running water. The host site also provides a paved pad for a trailer / RV with water and septic. Trail or RV must be clean, operational and up to date on current registration. The busiest season is from October to May when OHV riding conditions are the best. During the summer season occasional day use and general summer camping for other activities do occur. Hosts are given two days off per week and longer breaks will be considered with prior approval. We ask that our host serve a minimum 25 hours per week and will be required to show the hours of work in a work journal and on a volunteer timesheet.
Campground Hosts serve are expected to have a polite and courteous manner, with helpful disposition. It is necessary for the Campground Host to learn the rules and regulations of the campground. Camp Host will not handle any law enforcement issues but will report them to district law enforcement officers and or recreation staff. Hosts perform their duties independent without direct supervision. Staff will make regular contacts to provide support, heavy maintenance and regulatory compliance.
DUTIES
Greet Visitors with a friendly and helpful attitude
Keep restrooms neat, clean and meet health and safety standards.
Perform light maintenance in campground such as painting, picking up trash etc.
Keep campsites neat and clean.
Maintain a neat, clean and organized host site as an example to the visiting public.
Put out any unattended campfires
Remove fee stubs after campers vacate campsite.
Keep recreation staff updated on any issues regarding campers, campsites facilities or maintenance needs.
Report any law enforcement issues to law enforcement and recreation staff.
Be able to work independently without direct supervision.
