Park: Prince William Forest Park is a 15,000+ acre park preserving a variety of natural and cultural history within 35 miles of Washington, D.C. The park has 37 miles of hiking trails, over 21 miles of bicycle accessible roads and trails, numerous campgrounds and numerous cultural opportunities varying from CCC cabins to the OSS. Dates: April 2020 through November 2020, minimum hosting stay 2 months. Required to volunteer a minimum of 32 hours a week. Duties: The host position assists groups during their encampment by answering questions, managing check-in and check-out and providing assistance as needed. This position is an on-site job. May need to assist with cleaning and stocking restrooms. Operate park equipment. General up keep of cabin camps is a must. Inspecting of cabins before and after group encampments is vital to this position. Must operate a park radio. Onsite training is given to each host position. Skills: Must have a valid driver’s license. Organizational, people friendly attitude, willingness to work in a rural, rustic outdoor environment. Volunteer unsupervised. Compensation: Host positions vary from those who would like to bring their RV/trailer to those who would like to stay in the comfortable staff type quarters adjacent to the camp (no charge for either RV/trailer hookup or quarters). These positions are a great opportunity within reach of the great outdoors and near Washington D.C. Also, Prince William Forest Park is within reach of many historic and natural attractions. The park requests that host positions volunteer at least 32 hours per week in exchange for housing. Area: The area has many other national parks varying from George Washington birthplace to the Civil War sites of Manassas, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania.
