DESCRIPTION:
Volunteer position(s) at Cattle Camp Campground along the scenic McCloud River.
Volunteer(s) will serve as host(s) in one of our nicest (quietest) campgrounds. Light maintenance duties are required. Must have own camp trailer or camper and be self sufficient. May be required to work weekends, schedule is flexible.
The town of McCloud is 10 miles west of the campground and offers full services.
Cell service is spotty, but good a couple miles down the road (west).
Must have good communication and people skills and be able to trouble shoot problems that may arise with campers and/or facilities.
Driver’s license required.
DUTIES
Host(s) must provide visitor services to campers looking to secure a site for a stay ranging from 1-14 days. People skills are a must as well as a calm demeanor and willingness to listen. They will also be required to perform minor light maintenance on camp sites that include raking, putting out smoldering abandoned camp fires, garbage clean up, light cleaning and stocking of restrooms, and providing reports to designated district personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS
A valid driver’s license is required.
Host(s) must be able to share information with visitors and relay information on local sights or designations and explain Forest Service rules. The Campground Host(s) must also be a good listener and sympathetic to visitor’s complaints or needs.
Host(s) need be proficient in the use of basic tools such as shovels, hammers, rakes, leaf blowers, staple guns, mops, and the like.
Host must be fluent in English, other language proficiency and ASL are a bonus, but not a requirement.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is exclusively outdoors. The temperatures range from mild to hot in the summer and fall, to cool and cold in the late fall. Host(s) will also be in an active environment where visitors from all over the US/World come to enjoy camping and visiting the McCloud River. There is no poison oak, however wildlife is active. One may encounter deer, squirrel, badger, bear or the occasional, but rarely seen mountain lion or bobcat.
