ADDRESS: Gasquet Ranger Distrct; 10600 HWY 199; Gasquet 95543

DEPT: Forest Service

DATES: 5/10/2021 – 10/31/2021

DESCRIPTION:

Provide campground hosting for Grassy Flat Campground on the Smith River NRA.

Duties include but are not limited to: greeting visitors and campers, tracking campground vehicles and usage, provide information to visitors and campers, monitoring campground facilities and grounds, keep bathroom and shower facilities clean, monitor trash and recycling receptacles, address campers concerns or issues, promptly report any issues, concerns, or needs to Recreation Staff.

The campground provides multiple single-family sites for tent or RV camping (19 sites). Some sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each site is equipped with tables and campfire rings with grills. Accessible vault toilets are provided. Water is not available at this facility.

Grassy Flat Campground is adjacent to the Middle Fork of the Smith River. Highway 199 borders the north side. True to its name, it is flat but not grassy. Trees shade the campground and shrubs fill in the area between sites.

River Access: The river is located about 50 feet below the campground. There are no views of it from the campground but a short trail leads to a high view of it from an old bridge. The trail continues down to a swimming/fishing hole with a small gravel beach. This trail has some steep sections. Easier access is obtained by driving ½ mile east to Madrona River Access where a flat parking area is nearly at the level of a large sandy beach and shallow swimming hole.
