ADDRESS:

DEPT: Forest Service

DATES: 6/14/2021 – 12/31/2021

DESCRIPTION: The Coconino National Forest is looking to fill a Cabin Rental and Developed Recreation Cleaning and Maintenance volunteer position to assist with facilities operation.

The primary responsibility of this volunteer opportunity is to support the cleaning and general maintenance of two historic Cabin Rentals on the Red Rock Ranger District in beautiful Sedona, AZ. The two cabins, Apache Maid and Crescent Moon Ranch, provide opportunities for individuals and families to stay in unique settings on the National Forest. While Apache Maid sits in the cool ponderosa pine forest near the Mogollon Rim at an elevation above 6,300′ the Crescent Moon Ranch Cabin sits below the towering cliffs of Sedona at an elevation of 4,000′. These cabins each require once weekly housekeeping. Chores include cleaning counter tops, bathrooms, and floors. Periodically there will be yard and landscaping maintenance, as well as smaller home maintenance projects. Additionally, the position helps support the cleaning of several more remote vault toilets that are scattered across the district.

Currently, we have one volunteer position that supports this operation. Work would largely be done independently. Ideally, the work week would be 4 days on, then 3 days off, followed by a work week of 3 days on and 4 days off as the 2 volunteers would rotate weeks. The forest service offers RV/Trailer pads with full hook ups and we do offer a stipend of up to $20/day for a total of $140/bi-weekly. We are looking for a minimum of a 3 month commitment. We would be happy to have you as long as you would like to stay.

DUTIES
In general, this is a “housekeeping” type of position for the cabins and the restroom facilities. There may be times where we make improvements to the cabins with forest service support. The Crescent Moon Cabin is a year round operation and facility. The Apache Maid Cabin is only open May through November.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking a motivated and independent volunteer who does not have an issue with the cleaning of these public facilities. We can provide training and we do provide all the right tools for the job, including all personal protective equipment, materials, and supplies. A forest service vehicle is available and the selected person will need to posses a valid drivers license and take the Forest Service drivers training.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is conducted outside and inside, can be performed during inclement weather, and often in remote settings. In the Sedona area, the forest can be very hot during summer months.
