Want to be on sunny Sanibel Island, Florida for the fall?nWe are looking for one resident volunteer couple with CDL Class A driver certification and a passionate educator to implement to help us take our refuge on the road. Couple will arrive September 1, volunteer for the fall, and depart December 15. Have the holidays for yourselves!

 

J. N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge is looking for one resident couple to join us this fall to help with our Wildlife on Wheels (WoW) team. The mission of WoW is to take our refuge to our surrounding communities. WoW will be scheduled to visit schools, libraries, conservation-minded events, and economically challenged and minority communities in the five-county area to teach about water quality, the ecosystem, wildlife, and other topics that meet the Refuge’s mission.

Volunteers will help 3 days a weeks, and we ask that our volunteers come with a flexible schedule as the one operating the truck and trailer will need to be available for set up and take down at various locations.

You’ll receive full hook up (FHU) site, Wi-Fi, cable, free laundry facilities, bicycles, all while living within a 5-minute bike ride to the best shelling beach in the world, and of course our world class wildlife refuge/birding at J.N. “Ding” Darling in National Wildlife Refuge!

Couple needed September 1- December 15, 2021.

 

 

DUTIES

Between the two volunteers, we will need one individual to drive our 36-foot Wildlife on Wheels trailer pulled by a dually truck, conduct maintenance on mobile classroom/rig and clean mobile exhibits. The other individual will work with our Urban Educator and WoW interns to educate school kids and families at events using a mix of the mobile classroom, pullout exhibits, and traditional booth displays such as “skins and skulls”.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Outgoing personality: strong communication and leadership skills. Abundant enthusiasm/ passionate about working with children.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and have good peer communication.
  • CDL Class A license.
  • Education experience.
  • The position requires that the successful applicant live on and commute to locations within the 5-county area.
  • CPR, first aid certified.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions, humidity, biting insects, unpleasant odors
