Setup, host & oversee Alaska State Fair, Inc. Tent and RV campground

Experience required.

Skills required:

  • Experience working with large groups of people,
  • Physically demanding job, must be able to lift 100 pounds, pound T-poles into ground, install heavy signs, walk, and jog short distances,
  • Ability to get along well with people. Ability to remain calm and friendly when confronted with upset visitors.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is mostly outside in a variety of weather – hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions.
  • Must reside in campground.
  • Host must set an example by being a model camper practicing good housekeeping at all times in and around their assigned site and by observing all rules and regulations.

Pre-Fair Duties: 2 August – 11 August

  • Move personal camper/RV to Rebarchek Field
  • Set up RV and tent camping area by pounding T bars into ground and setting up temporary fencing, flagging.
  • Marking out RV & tent lots and installing signs. Set up correct amount of Disabled Parking
  • Ensure early arrivals are parked and tented correctly and have proper permits.

Fair Duties:

  • Greet and assist visitors, direct them to vacant sites, answer questions and explain regulations.
  • Distribute Fair fliers, and park rules and regulations.
  • Be observant for activities within the campground requiring immediate attention – from a tree needing to be trimmed to a problem camper, advising assigned Fair staff, but Hosts are not to participate in any high-risk activity.
  • Sell RV & Tent Permits to late arrivals and on dark days.
  • Walk around campgrounds & tenting area several times during day visiting, explaining rules if necessary, and before 11 every night, quieting things down.
  • Be familiar with local points of interest and the location of services that might be requested by campers such as towing, groceries, vehicle repair, churches.
  • Perform light maintenance work around the campground such as litter pickup and keeping flagging and temporary fencing neat and in order.
  • Be aware of adverse weather effects on campers and advise and ensure measures are taken to secure area.
  • Report daily via email all issues/incidents and progress and Keep a written report of complaints and criticism of park facilities, report situations that could affect the health and safety of visitors and report any maintenance items which need immediate attention. May maintain other written records as requested by the Fair Staff.

Post Fair Duties:

  • Take down fencing , signs, flagging, inventory and store.
