The overall goal of this position is to perform a variety of administrative/clerical duties for the Volunteer Program Office and the Native Plant Nursery. Volunteers will be given the opportunity to learn more about how the volunteer program plays a key role in the operations of the park.

 

The Volunteer Program Office is responsible for managing and overseeing Lake Mead National Recreation Area’s volunteer program. On average, Lake Mead has over 3000 volunteers who provide assistance to the park. The volunteer assisting the Volunteer Program Office will be providing a variety of support services to aid in the management of the overall program. The volunteer will provide clerical assistance. In addition to assisting the Volunteer Program Office, the volunteer will assist the Native Plant Nursery with scanning photos and documents for electronic retrieval.

 

Clerical Duties:Volunteer performs general clerical and administrative assistance which includes answering phones, taking messages, data entry, generating reports, filing, scanning documents, and photo copying. Volunteer is authorized to use government telephones, photocopy machine, fax machines, laminators and other equipment to accomplish their duties. The volunteer must be familiar with Microsoft programs; although, training will be provided to accomplish tasks.

 

Volunteer may sit or stand for long periods of time. Volunteer’s duties are primarily accomplished in an office setting. Volunteer is authorized to use a government computer and have access to Headquarters only when a background check is favorably adjudicated and has taken all the proper IT courses. All Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Policies regarding using and operating government equipment will be explained and given to the volunteer.

QUALIFICATIONS

Volunteer must possess the following:

  • Ability to use basic Windows computer programs such as Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Ability to learn and use copy, scanning, labeling and fax machines
  • Ability to file and organize office documents
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal and customer service skills are required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is primarily sedentary in an office setting. There is some standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 30 lbs.), carrying, and general cleaning.
